The New Student Admission Selection (SCMB) at Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN) is an annual process for accepting potential new students from various educational backgrounds. This process is designed to ensure UNTAN receives qualified prospective students through various fair and transparent selection pathways, both those managed nationally by the government and those independently by the university.
Generally, there are three main pathways prospective students can follow:
National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP)
National Selection Based on Tests (SNBT)
Independent Selection (SM UNTAN)
SNBP: This pathway is a selection without a test, where the assessment is based on a student’s academic performance in high school. The selection evaluates report card grades from the first to the final semester, as well as other academic and non-academic achievements. The SNBP pathway is managed by a national committee, and only top-performing students from eligible schools are entitled to register.
SNBT:This pathway relies on the results of the Computer-Based Written Test (UTBK) as the main criterion. The UTBK tests scholastic abilities, mathematical reasoning, Indonesian language literacy, and English language literacy. The UTBK results obtained by the participants will be used to apply for their chosen study programs. This selection provides a wider opportunity for students who may not have very high report card grades but are capable of competing in a written exam.
Independent Selection: This selection is managed independently by UNTAN. The Independent pathway is designed to give more opportunities to prospective students who did not pass through the SNBP or SNBT. The admission criteria can vary from year to year, but it usually involves a written test administered by the university itself. Sometimes, the independent pathway also includes special categories such as the Achievement or Affirmation Pathway, which allows admission based on specific accomplishments or affirmative backgrounds.
